Hi Everybody,
Just to let you all know that we are testing the new NinjaTrader version 6.5 here in house (as a developer). This has NOT been released to the public yet. It all looks good, however, there are a few minor bugs to be sorted by NinjaTrader, but overall it looks good.
The MTP addons work perfectly with it, but we will not publicly support this until it goes to its official public release.
But I just wanted to give you all a heads up, that this "initially" looks good and it is on its way.... but is NOT available to the public as yet.

We have not tested with Range Bars, so for now please stick with normal OHLC bars (3 and 5min etc)
Thanks

Hi Steve,
Is there a way to make the TS signals show up while having reversal bars turn off in NinjaTrader? I remember this was possible before in prior versions but now I am not able to do it on the new version. Can you fix this for other experience traders out there?
thanks

The colored reversal bars are part of the MTPredictor set-ups, so cannot be separated from a valid MTP set-up
Thanks

That is an option I wish were implemented. I don't use MTP Trade Setups in TS because you can't turn off the reversal bars. I use a entry method which suits me better than reversal bars....Jim

+1
For most charts, I also use just the DP eld in TS8 as I am not a regular reversal bar user, although I am trying 'standard' MTP setups within Ninja 6.5 (using range bars on FDAX, with STF + a simple 5,3,3 slow sto).

PS. The reasons I'm less than totally enthusiastic about reversal bars are (a) I have no understanding of their logic & (b) there are too many of them !

Hi J,
Yes, the Dax even works well using the standard 3min bars as well :)
Here is a +5.3R profit form yesterday ;)

That +5.3R profit was yesterday...
Now today we have just had another +5.5R Profit see below....
Over +10R profit in just 2 days, I think that shows that the Dax has some nice set-ups, don't you ;)

Actually, Steve, your trade shows the correct December contract. I've been using the March contract as I thought the DAX would roll like the US index futures - it doesn't, the front contract trades the most volume right up to expiration. I stayed with March as I'm using IB data without backfill to build my range bars (DDay will be tut-tutting if he reads this :o ).
But I post this for any other DAX newbies out there.
;)

Hi J.
Correct, the volume on the DAX is still in the Dec contract.
Here is the end result - a massive +10R profit............ Happy Christmas to all the DAX traders out there :) :)

Steve - tricky to locate as it's still in beta : you have to go via the support forum.

Hi Guys,
Please remember that this is still a BETA version.
If you wish to use the MTP routines, then you will have to re-install them after installing the NinajTrader 6.5 Beta.
But again, please remember this is still a Beta version....

Thanks

tonis - range bars are all the same length, which is whatever range you choose, say 6 ES ticks (1.5 pts), so a new bar doesn't start to form until the range of the previous bar is exceeded, top or bottom. This can really clean up a chart, smooth indicators and be advantageous for trading (gaps are filled with "phantom" bars).
It can also really mess things up ... as always, you have to check it out and experiment to see if it suits your style of trading.
I've been experimenting with range bars myself recently, using the Ninja beta. My present opinion is that I prefer them to regular time, tick or volume bars, but not enough to switch from TradeStation to either Ninja or the dreaded eSignal. I expect TStation will get round to introducing range bars by early 2012... or sometime soon thereafter :p ...

2012 would be a rush job. Better to wait unitl EVERYBODY else has it first. TS is a bit like a communist state - if it's not in the 10year plan - then it doesn't exist. I love the platform but it has got a bit behind the times. Bless them.

Thanks for the reply, it was most helpful!
By the way, I have read in the NT support forum that the beta version has a big problem with corrupt or unsaved workspaces.
Have MTP users got any comments or experiences to share with us about this?
Thanks!

Yes just one, just use the default one or one that you named. I had a few problems with it, I had to delete all my workspaces. Since a supposedly fix I haven't attempted to use them as I don't want to go back to the process of deleting everything again.
Oh and just in case I make a back-up every 2 days of Ninja.
Let's not forget that it is still in beta, but beside workspaces problem I can't complain I am very satisfied.

I have faced issues with daily pivots with 6.5.09 which has a number of options to calculate the pivots. Setting PriorDayHLC to Daily results in NT hanging at reconnection. They have a fix for the next release. Also 6.5 takes longer to load all the charts into the workspace at start up so you have to be patient.

Hi all,
I am new to RT trading and I'd like to run NT's simulated platform for a few months to get a feel for it.
I wondered whether anyone who is a current NT user might be kind enough to suggest a data provider/ broker combination that integrates well with the platform?
I'll be looking to trade Australasian index futures (Hang Seng, Nikkei and the SPX) once I get going so that might restrict me to IB - could anyone share whether they have had a positive experience with IB/ NinjaTrader or whether alternative data would be preferable?
Thank you
Joel

IB is a very good source of cheap data. US stocks and futures are quoted RT for free (conditions apply), but foreign stuff isn't. However, they are very reasonably priced.
With respect to the quality of the feed, I can't complain. I have only experienced one outage, just after one of Bernanke's decisions, and luckily I was out of the market at the time.
Just one man's opinion, though.

Hi Tonis, thank you for your reply. It seems that the Hong Kong exchange and Sydney exchange are free through IB but Tokyo is not. Still only works out to about £10 per month in data through - very nice :-)
Thanks for your comments. I think I will pursue IB. Cheers.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has an opinion on trading futures end of day and on using NinjaTrader to trade stocks and futures on an end of day basis. Does the Zenfire futures datafeed support end of day charting (I don't think they used to, but I have not use NT for over a year)?
thanks,
Ben
