Hello All,

After struggling with various methods/pieces of software I have the solution!

You can use metatrader (MT4) to get free data for most Forex pairs.

Instead of going to the history centre and manually saving data files every (15 minutes, Hour, 4 hours - whatever your preference) there does exist some script as a custom indicator which writes prn files down to your HD.

Yahoo group: Metatrader experts has an indicator called 'Agetdata' - it is a thing of beauty to all those that behold it...

Attach it to a chart (any timeframe) and a prn will be written to your hardrive every minute whilst that chart remains open. (So as not to slow your computer down too much set up a profile for each timeframe you wish to look at and open it just before you want to do some analysis).

It works in the same way as iTrader - yet without the bad data, data with gaps, etc.

NJOI

1+1=2, 1+2=3, 2+3=5, 3+5=8, 5+8=13 ..... =1.5E+21

how exactly do i do this?

1). download metatrader 4
(free download - set up a demo trading account - free)
2). subscribe to yahoo group 'metatrader experts'

3). go to files section of Yahoo Group and download the custom indicator called Agetdata.mql

4). Copy Agetdata.mql to C:\Program Files\Metatrader 4\experts\indicators

5). Open a chart in metatrader 4 and attach custom indicator 'Agetdata'

6). data for this chart is now being written to your hard drive: location: C:\Program Files\Metatrader 4\experts\files

7) run MTP EOD and browse to C:\Program Files\Metatrader 4\experts\files to open a chart/do a scan - NOTE you will have to define the data in the normal way (see user manual for MTP EOD)

set up profiles in metatrader 4 with the charts/timeframes you want to look at. to update the data files open metatrader 4 - leave it for a few minutes and the charts will be written down and updated on your hard drive when you want to analyse in MTP EOD.

Its worth the effort - it means that you can get MPT EOD working almost as quickly as MPT RT.

I am loving it! :D

Hi

I downloaded MT4 onto a spare PC to do some playing around. I noticed the extra pairs that were not listed on my usual trading PC so downloaded the latest version of MT4 still no good....
In the end I had to uninstall MT4 & reinstall from scratch & had the extended list.. Give it a try although you will have to set up your personal profiles again but that's not a big deal

Cheers

Here is the file (I think)... remove the .txt extension and all should be well. (this forum doesn't allow the .mq4 extension...)

Soap, Can you post your data setup? I am using Metatrader4 with Alpari data, but the "time" data is messing me up. It is all zeros, regardless of time frame (60/240/1440min). MTP-EOD freaks and bails, not knowing what to do with it... Also, I am not getting current data for the intra day, but maybe it will take several "logins" to catch up on the data...

Anyway, any help with the data setup in MTP-EOD would be much appreciated!!

Thanks, buddy ..it works great

All you need to do is...when you define data...choose this format
Date
Skip
Open
High
Low
Close
Volume

And it works !!!

It does work nice doesn't it.... - no more tedious mucking around with the history centre :D

Data setup as Durgesh suggests - use skip for time if you like:

or:

I tried two Agetdata.mql's - I found this one was better for time/dates

Again rename and remove .txt extension before putting in MT4 folder.

Right - more time to focus on analysis rather than data files!

Nice work Biggo and NHN123,

more products = more potential setups.

I have noticed a little bit of a difference in the data - only a pip or two here and there. I hope it doesn't vary too much from my brokers....

Thanks

BTW.

Has anybody got an indicator/script for MT4 that gives coloured reversal bars...???

I just can't spot setups with the naked eye on candlesticks - but it is nice to see the colour of the bar.

Durgesh - remember a screenshot you once put up that looked like MT4, on bars but had coloured reversals...

thx

Any ideas on this one?!?! my 1hr/4hr charts in Metatrader4 show the correct data up thru the current bar, BUT! the data written by the Agetdata indicator does not go past 2004 for 1hr/4hr data. (Daily data is fine, and is right up to current...).

Wierd....

Oh, and thanks D! for the tip on the "skip" field for the data definition. That worked. I had never run the pulldown in EOD down that for!! now, if I can get my intraday data current....

I have the same, the data is good and the chart is fine but in EOD on anything less than daily charts the date is mucked up...

Still s'nice not to have to make my fingers bleed using that history centre all day long. I think the keys on my laptop have been worn out!

By opening the chart (in metatrader)you want it for, then go to the pulldowns, Indicator-Custom-Agetdata.... You have to specifically load it on EACH chart.... Nothing will show on the chart showing it is loaded, so to check, you can right-click the chart, select Indicator List, and see if it is loaded. If it is, it will show up in the list....

mrkam
05-02-2006, 01:31 PM
OK, here is what I have found so far... The 1hr/4hr dates are all messed up, but the DATA IS FINE?!?!? go figure. If I open the actual downloaded file .prn (opens fine with Notepad, etc), and compare the ACTUAL open/hi/lo/close data for each bar, they MATCH exactly the bars on the metatrader charts (which you get by dragging your mouse to the bar in question, and a balloon with the data pops up.)

But! the dates are wierd. 5/2/06 on the chart will show up as 4/30/04 or something in the data file. But the progression of data is correct, so the chart in MTP-EOD is fine, just the dates on the bottom of the chart are off by a couple of years....

So, I think the upshot of this is, that the MTP analysis and tools will work just fine on the data, just pay no attention to the dates on the bottom axis, which really do not enter into the MTP analysis, just that we are current..

Anyway, I think all is (sort of) OK.....

I did exactly that and it is listed in the indicator list, but still no data being written to my HD! If I browse under Metatrader4/experts/files, there is nothing found :(

When I check the indicator settings, I have "allow external experts imports" checked and "allow DLL imports" not checked. Besides I have all the timeframes I look at (1hr,4hr,dly,wkly,mnthly) checked!

What am I missing???

Any help is being greatly appreciated :)

Gurova - you are a superstar!!!!

Dates are fixed in all timeframes....

Now - you obviously know you mql4. so:

PLEASE - can you find/write some script that colours bars in charts the same way as long/short candleticks are coloured. Or give some indication of momentum - blue (long) red (short) green (neutral).

pretty please...???

Aren't those just coloured depending on whether the bar closed higher or lower than the open?

You can change it on the properties: right click on the chart, and go to properties.

No probs.

Does anyone know the maths for a reversal bar, anyway? Would be good to know, as I have data for so many pairs, but I can't get it into MTP. I can give the fib clusters a go on a spreadsheet, but no reversal bar = no set up.... I suspect they are like KFC chicken though - a secret recipe?

right click on the file and go to rename.

If you cannot see the extension then go to:

start/control panels/folder options

click the view tab

and untick the 'hide file extensions' option.

Hope this works...?

I have been using IDLe for over a month now and it works great
you can set it up to update in the background and set the period you want IE: every 15 30 60 min or what ever

my only issue with it is that I am also using ESignal and they both use the same socket to give me the data however if I start Esignal first all is fine but IDLe will crash every so often.

I know a freind of mine has been using IDLE for long time with no esignal and he is very happy with it

the main reason I use them also is that Esignal is great but if you want to monitor too many pairs at the same time and download the data to MTP EOD then it takes 5-10 minutes of freezing the computer waiting for all the chart to reset

also with IDLe I get 4hr candle with 1 hour difference and I get my day candles at 3pm PST instead of midnight

I dont know where you are from but their signal is GMT-2 and there is a setting to put it on your time zone I tried that and my intraday charts didnt work in EOD so the setting is -2minutes it will still be x hours different but the charts will be perfect

I am testing your meta4 at the moment but not sure if I like it except for the other features

BTW it is free demo and for 30 days but they ask you if you want to renew b4 the 30 days and you dont miss a beat

good luck

also with IDLe I get 4hr candle with 1 hour difference and I get my day candles at 3pm PST instead of midnight

BTW it is free demo and for 30 days but they ask you if you want to renew b4 the 30 days and you dont miss a beat

good luck

Can you keep rolling it in the same name? I hate making new names up, and new phone numbers, email addresses etc... I'm gonna run out of ideas soon

thanks

Yes u just have to go into the account section and click renew but if u have chaged password it wont let you into main account without orifinal password so write it down or u have to resignup, which reminds me it time for me torenew myself.

I have a problem with that "aget" install guys. i can get it loaded into custom indicators no problem even set it on the chart confirmed by seeing it in indicators but i have no expert\file where its is going to, the data isnt going anywhere, so maybe im the thickest person here LOL

I had problems with it too.

So what I did was open the file, copy all the text from it. Then go into the meta editor and create a new "custom indicator":

Follow the steps below (pictures) then a sort of text document will come up; delete all the text on there, paste the text from the agetdata file, and then you must right click anywhere on the text, and click "compile" its set up for you then and it will appear in your custom indicator on the list...

U da Man NHN, i have it making files now BUT its prn extension and when try to load says not sufficient data to plot points or currupt file. I have the bar count on MT4 options set to 250,000
surely thats enough of history LOL. any idea's.

Also you can make a template save as with your setup on MT4 then every cchart u open just hit template and everythings all set.

Sorry if im a pain in da ass little green with stuff like this

I have been able to upload the data using IDLe - very straightward and intuitive, but MTP EOD crashes when I try to load any data other than daily into it. Not sure how to proceed as because it is Metastock it will not even allow me to try to manually define the data.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Hi Guys,

Before you all start rushing to get yet another free data source into MTP EOD, would any of you like to check with me about the format of the data and its compatability with MTP EOD.

Remember, our support team is here ready to help you, so please feel free to drop them an email on Support@MTPredictor.net.

I would also like to see a few of these data files to check compatability. For example, please do not use Metastock format with intraday data, plese stick to ASCII for intraday data files.

Thanks, and I hope tihs helps ?

Steve

Origonal Question has been removed as we have not confirmed that this user has a legal copy of MTPredictor.

Obviously we do not want to help people who have ilegal hacked copies ?

As such, all support questions should please go through support@MTPredictor.net

Thanks

Steve
